Marketing Communications in English

An online weekend workshop with Erica Williams

The marketing communications industry (e.g. advertising, PR, media, digital marketing) has been experiencing a period of massive change due to digitalisation, technological developments and globalisation. Increasingly dominated by global holding companies, the industry has adopted English as a lingua franca in a pervasive manner at a rapid rate. A huge ESP market exists. Concentrating on this niche market and building a reputation in the industry can increase a teacher’s market value. Creative, open-minded, different, crazy, passionate, left field and original are a few words that spring to mind when it comes to describing professionals in the industry. The working environment in an agency is fun, unconventional and dynamic and teaching in the industry can be extremely rewarding and stimulating.

Teachers face a challenge though as there is a dearth of published EFL material that goes beyond the superficial to target what professionals in marketing communications truly need to master. This workshop explores the specific needs of both pre- and in-work learners and content and material that address these needs.

IATEFL BESIG members and non-members alike are most welcome.
