Maureen Ellis, an associate lecturer for the Open University, also tutors on Birmingham University’s Distance MA. She is currently reading for a PhD at the Institute of Education, London University, in 'The personal and professional development of Critical Global Educators'. Maureen has lived and worked in over 40 countries as a result of her husband’s career with the Foreign Office, and her own freelance assignments in Language and Development, and now lives in Somerset. She believes that practitioners, passionate about social justice, Development Education, and human ecology, should revive the rich tradition in Critical theory and pedagogy.
Steve Flinders is a director of York Associates, a training, coaching and publishing organisation based in York, England whose mission is to develop people for their international roles. The company develops its clients’ skills in five main areas: language, communication, intercultural, interpersonal, and teamwork and leadership. Training is delivered both at its training centre in York and worldwide.
Steve has lived and worked in the UK, France, Ireland, Sweden and Pakistan. His job now involves co-managing the company, delivering international training and coaching mainly across Europe, marketing in France and Scandinavia, and writing. He has a special interest in international HR and trade union communication and is the author of a number of books for people working internationally.
James Chamberlain is the director of the Language Centre of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Sankt Augustin, Germany. The Language Centre plays a key strategic role in furthering the university’s internationalization policy, training students and staff alike in more than 14 languages as well as preparing both German students for sojourns abroad and international students for their stay in Germany. Beyond language tuition, the Centre offers courses in intercultural communication and competence, ethics, cultural anthropology, and a wide range of specific communication skills.
James has lived and worked in the US, Israel, France and Germany. He has been teaching Business English since 1984 and training intercultural communication since 1994. Over the years he has developed special interests in German philosophy, French wine and English ale.
