BESIG Conference 2009
The 2009 Annual BESIG Conference will be held in one of the biggest cities in Poland - Poznan. BESIG , the Poznan University of Economics and INTERSECTION School of English are pleased to announce that the Annual BESIG Conference will take place on the main premises of the University of Economics, right in the centre of the city of Poznan, between 20 and 22 November.
Poznan is a great choice for the BESIG conference. The city is a strong academic centre with a number of universities, some of them among the best in Poland. It was here that the first Polish state was created a thousand years ago. The city’s Old Town is said to be one of the most beautiful in Poland and in Europe, and the surrounding forests, lakes and natural reserves make it a favourite tourist destination. Poznan is also a city of international trade fairs and is renowned for its interest in business. We have a reputation for being thrifty, persistent and well-organised – very useful features when organizing an event like the Annual BESIG Conference.
The conference venue is the main University of Economics building, located right in the city centre, a 10-minute walk from the main train station and only a short bus or taxi ride from the city airport. Take a moment to go on a virtual tour of the university, which was set up over 80 years ago, at http://www.zwiedz.ue.poznan.pl
In case you arrive early, decide to stay longer, or if you simply need a breather during the conference itself, we recommend the following sights and attractions:
- Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
- The Old Town with its enchanting Old Market Square (lots of cafes, restaurants, pubs in the square and close to it)
- Town Hall dating back to the 16th century – a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture
- National Museum with a fantastic collection of Flemish Painting and contemporary art exhibitions
- Museum of Musical Instruments (the biggest collection of instruments in Europe)
Why not combine cultural activities with shopping? The Old Brewery, converted into an elegant shopping gallery, is known as the best shopping gallery in Europe and a cultural centre with numerous concerts and exhibitions taking place throughout the year.
