BESIG Online Team

The IATEFL BESIG Online Team (BOT) was created in 2010 to manage the SIG's online activities and is responsible for BESIG's social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) and our online events, such as the popular monthly Weekend Workshops, conference simulcasts, and occasional webinars.

As of January 2017 the BESIG Online Team consists of the following SIG members:

Pete Rutherford - BOT Coordinator

Pete RutherfordPete Rutherford is a business English and communication trainer from Cape Town, South Africa, and now based in Düsseldorf, Germany. He works for Marcus Evans Linguarama, where his primary responsibility is the delivery of personalised courses and workshops to individuals and small groups, both in person and online. He also conducts in-service teacher training and development sessions, and is involved in a peer observation project and an annual classroom-based research project. Pete has worked in South Africa, Spain and Germany, and has experience working with professionals in diverse fields, including financial services, retail, wholesale, aeronautics, manufacturing, publishing, broadcasting, marketing, energy, and tertiary education. His professional interests include learning technologies, English and communication skills for HR professionals, corpus linguistics, and learning to learn.


Mercedes Viola - BOT Member

Mercedes Viola lives in Uruguay. She holds a degree from the Universidad de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay and an MA in TESOL. She has been running an English institute for more than 20 years, where she is in charge of designing and implementing business English learning experiences for government-owned organizations, universities and many well known international companies such as Microsoft, HP, American Express, Deloitte, John Deere and MasterCard; designing materials for business English clients; supervising the development of specific courses in different business areas such as accounting, finance, human resources, business administration and marketing; and implementing new technologies in education. She is also a writer for the Teaching English site of the British Council and a member of the IATEFL Electronic Committee.


Kirsten Waechter - BOT Member

Kirsten WaechterKirsten Waechter has been a business English trainer since 1998. Having taught in-company course for many years, today she focuses on teaching business communication, English for special purposes and intercultural courses and very often those courses overlap as it is hardly possible to disentangle the web of language, culture and communication. She has designed her own materials in this field and provides teacher training. In addition, she is a translator and writer and has authored guidebooks on Meetings in English and Emailing in English for Cornelsen Scriptor. If she is not at work, she divides her free time between Germany, Scotland and Sweden. Since 2015, she has been the mentor for the BESIG scholarship presenters.


Dana Poklepovic - BOT Member

Dana Poklepovic is a communication skills and Business English trainer. She has taught Business English for over 20 years in Argentina and Santiago de Chile and translated for the United Nations Development Program in New York. She holds a PhD in Modern Languages, a Business English Training certificate by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a Translation degree by UCA. At present, she is completing an Organizational Coaching Master Program. Dana runs a language consulting firm that provides training services to companies and freelance professionals in Argentina. Her current interest is to design programs to develop interpersonal skills in BE courses through experiential learning and coaching tools. Dana is responsible for the excellent IATEFL BESIG World Blog.


Shanthi Cumaraswamy Streat - BOT Member

Shanthi Cumaraswamy Streat graduated in Politics and International Studies from the University of Southampton, UK in 1989. After 20 years in the world of Finance in such varied fields as life assurance, stockbroking, fund management, and wealth management, she decided to re-train as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Trainer.She studied for the CELTA at International House, London in 2009 and has since been a freelance English Language Trainer specialising in teaching adults both General and Business English. She teaches online and offline through her home stay full immersion courses. She is based in South East London, UK. She has her own blog and business, English with a Twist. Shanthi is responsible for BESIG's Facebook group and its monthly moderated discussions.


Sue Annan - BOT Member

Sue Annan is a teacher and Trinity trainer in the Channel Island of Jersey. She was one of the first students of the online CertIBET course, after which she became a member of IATEFL BESIG. Sue teaches business English in a private language school. BESIG is her go-to for stimulating material and excellent CPD. She is one of the moderators of #ELTChat on Twitter and Facebook.When not working, Sue plays in an English Ceilidh Band which plays traditional music from the British Isles and France. Sue is responsible for BESIG's Facebook page.
